OTCF

Open Tech Communities Foundation.

OTCF is a Nigerian nonprofit, registered in May 2026, that gives three independent tech communities — Open Designers, Open Devs and GDG Ilorin — a shared legal and institutional home.

What OTCF is

Open Tech Communities Foundation (OTCF) is a Nigerian nonprofit registered on 7 May 2026 as an Incorporated Trustee under Part F of the Companies and Allied Matters Act, with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC). It is newly founded and based in Ilorin, Kwara State.

OTCF is the registered parent body for three tech communities that each operate independently:

  • Open Designers — an open-source design initiative and community.
  • Open Devs — the developer community under OTCF.
  • GDG Ilorin — the Google Developer Group chapter in Ilorin, with 4,600+ members, and the organiser of DevFest Ilorin.

How the structure works

OTCF is to its communities what Alphabet is to Google. Each community keeps its own identity, its own leadership and its own activities. OTCF provides what a volunteer community cannot easily provide for itself: legal recognition, organisational backing, and a shared institutional home that helps the communities grow and last.

This is not a merger. Nobody joins "OTCF" instead of a community — you join the community you care about, and OTCF stands behind all of them.

Who runs OTCF

  • Areous A. Ahmad — Chairman and founder. A product designer and community builder with more than seven years of community work. Areous is also the Lead Organizer of GDG Ilorin and the founder of Open Designers.
  • Faith Ayomide Odetunde — Secretary and co-trustee.
